Vintage-ish Fashion Gems in NoHu

Visitors flocking our area aiming for the perfect selfie with the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Manhattan skyline may have come across a large, blue sign in existence for as long as I can remember.
The sign reads, “Welcome to West New York- A good place to live and shop”. Growing up in NoHu, this always struck me like a proverbial joke. Shopping for on-trend clothes was, at that time, relegated to the likes of throwaway fashion stores, Easy Pickins and Mandee.
Though I’m not gonna hate on their budget-friendly options, they have little to offer when it comes to high-quality, wardrobe staples. But a couple of chic boutiques in our area are hoping to change that.
The store-front at the antique shop Archives demands a second look.
Store owner Alicia Rosato seasonally curates a store window that would make “Confessions of Window Dresser” Simon Doonan, proud.
She has a gifted eye for picking the best pieces from history’s closet.
Garments at Archives are time-traveling artifacts curated for their vibrancy, appeal and one-of-a-kind quality; a dress from this store ensures no one else at the party will be wearing the same thing.
Attire from all notable fashion eras are offered at reasonable prices to treasure forever or just rent for that special occasion.
Drea’s Closet is a cutie-pie of a store.
Dresses, tops, and skirts are on hand for those looking for something, so adorbs. Outfits found here are feminine and tongue-in-cheek without being overtly sexy.
Cozy sweaters, tailored jackets and off-the-runway prints such as tiger (Grrrr), tweeds, polka-dots, and florals are on display. If variety is the spice of life, Drea’s responds by carrying an array of items that assert life is too short to wear boring clothes.
Anyone seeking an eye-catching wedding outfit should flock to this store. But be forewarned, you may overshadow the bride.
