“Many years ago I use to live in Hoboken. The fires started in the 80’s. They would burn people alive in their own homes. They wanted to take us out. They wanted to take all the Spanish people out and leave only the yuppies. When I lived in Hoboken I use to pay $40 in rent, that’s when I got married in 77’. I use to make $.90 cents an hour. This area is more tranquil and everyone is nice, more latinos here too.” - Mendez
2. Growing up in WNY my mom was very protective of me especially since that’s where my sister grew up, and she was always like, oh the kids here you have to watch out they’ll get you into bad things but in North Bergen my mom was like you can walk home, you’re good here. She was more comfortable here” - Elizabeth
3. “I think we’re basically like the same North Bergen and WNY, it’s the same thing but I think people in general think that NB is just more safe. I have no idea why, we’re neighbors. I don’t have a problem with WNY at all, I mean I think we’re like the same thing but I think there’s a bad stereotype that people think oh that’s WNY, and then vise versa Oh it’s NB.” - Bryant
4. “There’s that WNY / NB beef. There was beef between schools. I remember being from WNY coming to NB we use to be able to go out for lunch and then there was a big fight that broke out between WNY and NB kids at the Burger King on 61st st on Bergenline and then we weren’t allowed to go out for lunch but WNY was so they’d always be like HAHAHA you guys can’t go out to lunch” – Elizabeth
