#ONLYINNOHU
WHAT DOES NOHU MEAN?
NoHu is short for North Hudson which is our hood! It includes our five towns of North Bergen, Guttenberg, West New York, Weehawken, and Union City.
How did Only in NoHu get started?
For over two years now, we've been wanting to start a project focused on North Hudson County. But when we were trying to figure out what to call it, at first we came up with NoHud but that didn't sound good to us so one day during brunch we came up with NoHu. Once we did research on the name it was then that we learned the name NoHu was already created and used by the NoHu Film Festival. But we had our heart set on it. We decided to start using the hashtag #NoHu and told a few people to see if the word would spread and they in turn told a few more people. We started to see the hashtag spread and that’s how we knew we had something. If you're a real Hudson County resident (and by real we mean either born or raised here) then you’ve heard and/or said the phrase, "Only in Hudson County." And that my friends is how Only in NoHu was born.
Why did Only in NoHu get started?
We love the arts, music and local events that always took us to NYC because that's usually where the party’s at. Then, Brooklyn came and we preferred to go there. Then downtown Jersey City happened so of course we opted to go there (the commute was shorter!) But even while hanging in down town JC, we wondered why our towns didn't have cool events like theirs did. So instead of waiting, we decided to try it ourselves.
NoHu is home to amazing artists, musicians and talented people that we as a community should support. Why go anywhere else, right? NoHu also has many old and new businesses that we should also be supporting. Because at the end of the day it’s about supporting our community -- one we hope gets to know each other again. Shop local, eat local, support local.
